It Is Time to Get Ready for the AFNB Tournament

Today is September 5, 2022, the Labor Day in the US. Every year by this time, US Open Tennis Championship is halfway through. This year’s US Open has several watching points. First, Zheng Qinwen, Zhang Shuai, Wang Xiyu, and qualifier Yuan Yue advanced to the third round at the US Open, marking the first time in the Open Era that four Chinese women have advanced to the third round of a Slam. Even a men’s player, Wu Yibing became the first Chinese man to ever advance to the third round of any Grand Slam. This stimulates a discussion in our local tennis group chat. Second, 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, former world No. 1, and four-time Olympic gold medalist, Serena Williams is knocked out at Round 3 after three-hour, three sets. This is her last professional tennis match. At age 40, soon she will be 41, and she knows her tennis career will come to an end. Third, the most controversial about this year’s US Open is the current Men’s No. 1 player, three-time US Open champion Novak Djokovic is banned to enter the United States due to not having been vaccinated against Covid-19 as a non-US citizen. This seems quite ridiculous reason, resulting in discounted the level of US Open Competition as a Grand Slam. Many tennis fans are upset by the absence of Novak Djokovic. Even Djokovic’s longtime rival Rafael Nadal and defending US Open champion Daniil Medvedev are disappointed without Djokovic’s participation. It is a sad thing.

Like this year’s US Open, a tournament continuously changes, some new players enter and some old players exit and only the spirit of the tournament remains. The good news is that the 2022 AFNB tennis tournament is around the corner, which is scheduled on October 22-23 at Sugar Land Clements High School. I know several players have privately asked around to find a good partner or actively prepared for the tournament. If you are the first time playing this tournament, it is better to form a game plan for how to play out this tournament. In the past, many good players fell short in the tournament because they did not anticipate the match intensity. Playing a tournament is quite different than usual practices since a team is going to play against another pair who have not met before. The different styles, strengths, and weaknesses will be exposed in an 8-game match. Although it is fun to play with different players, to well prepare a tournament is more fun and more enjoyable because it will leave a lifetime memory, regardless of winning or losing. Just think about it, this is once a year opportunity, so why not give your best shot?
